Did you know that the world’s first ‘thinking’ robots were called Elmer and Elsie, and that they were invented near Keynsham in 1948? Or that there’s a world leading centre for robotics right on our doorstep?
Rediscover the amazing local history of science, technology and robotics at Making Space for Our Future, a five-day family festival taking place over February half term in Keynsham Town Centre. The launch event for Keynsham’s Local Cultural Programme, it celebrates our town’s innovators in the past and present, and invites visitors to play, create, explore, and ‘make space for our future’.
Enjoy street markets, art installations, a robotics exhibition, musical performances, and art and design workshops. All events are free, but some need to be booked in advance.

Making Space for Our Future has been funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council’s allocation of the European Union’s Welcome Back Fund 2021–22, and by Historic England’s High Streets Heritage Action Zones (HS HAZ) initiative.
